Cora Robb-Agler-Berry
Cora May “Corky” Robb-Agler-Berry was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Warren, Ohio, to Clarence D. and Celia M. Robb. Cora went to the Lord on Oct. 2, 2012 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by brother, Frank, and sister, Pearl; husband, Denver Agler, and husband William “Bill” Berry.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Agler-Lee, of Belton, Texas, Beve
rly Agler-Lee, of Round Rock, and Barbara Berry-Emery (Edward), of Rockport, Texas; three sons, Dan Agler, of Webster, Texas, Robert Agler, of Spring, Texas, and William E. Berry (Sherlene), of Chandler, Ariz.; nephew, Denver Wilson (Donna), of Brookfield, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children.
Cora joined the US Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of AMMI 3rd class (Aviation Machinist Mate – Instruments). She was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi where she repaired the gyrocompass for the automatic pilot in navy aircraft.
“Corky” married Denver L. Agler in 1945 at the Naval Air Station and they settled in Rockport, where they opened Corky”s Cafe in 1947 adjacent to the Rockport Boat Basin. Corky”s Restaurant evolved into a well-known family restaurant specializing in seafood and a “Tasty Meal with Appeal.”
Cora married William M. “Bill” Berry in 1987 and sold the restaurant in 1990. She and Bill enjoyed “RVing” about the US, wintering and settling for a short time in Mesa, Ariz., before building a home in Lockhart in 1995. They were faithful members of the Lockhart United Methodist Church (UMC) and Cora had previously been a member of the Rockport UMC. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 479 in Rockport.
Cora or “Corky” was always a nurturing woman, sensitive to the needs of others. Community, school, and church organizations knew they could count on Corky to help with any “food service” needs in Rockport. A recent project in Lockhart was the procurement of patio furniture for the Parkview Nursing Home. Hungry hummingbirds had her address locked into their migratory flight plans.
Corky was “multitasking” long before the word was ever developed and she may have been the original “Energizer Bunny” which kept “going and going and going ….”
She ran the race, fought the good fight, and is now at home with her Lord. The Light of Christ shone brightly in her words and deeds and her life was a testament to her faith.
Celebration Memorial services for Cora Berry will be held at the Lockhart UMC, 313 West San Antonio St. 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13,2012, and at the Rockport UMC, 801 E. Main St. at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.
