In partnership with a regional transportation vision for Central Texas, the Caldwell County Commissioners voted on Monday to invest not only in support, but in financial backing.
The project, which according to Hays County Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe will eventually create a loop around San Marcos, and connect McCarty L
ane with Yarrington Road, crosses the Caldwell County border in a limited scope, and does qualify, according to those familiar with the project, to be funded with a portion of the $10 million set aside by the SH-130 Concession Fund for Caldwell County to create “connectivity” with the controversial tollway.
Commissioner Fred Buchholtz was steadfast against the expenditure, instead expressing his support for the Commissioners drafting a specific plan for the use of the funds. Additionally, he said, he wanted to spend some time researching the creation of a “transportation reinvestment zone,” which will be a taxing entity attached to the transportation project.
However, the remainder of the Court decided Caldwell County should strike while the iron is hot on the project, and voted 4-1 to move forward with a resolution and commitment to spend the $1 million
