The Caldwell County Democratic and Republican Parties recently announced their picks to appear on the ballot in a special election to fill the unexpired term as Caldwell County Precinct One Commissioner, a seat vacated by Tom Bonn earlier this year.
After Bonn’s resignation, then-County Judge H.T. Wright appointed Jo
hn Cyrier to fill in until the Nov. 2, 2010, special election.
Caldwell County Republican Party Chair Arnold Alonzo announced recently that the party’s executive committee gave Cyrier the nod to continue, and he will be placed as the Republican nominee on the ballot in November.
The Caldwell County Democratic Party met on May 31, 2010, and chose local entrepreneur Richard Mendez to face Cyrier in the special election.
Mendez made an unsuccessful run for the seat in 2008, when Bonn earned a second term with just over 55 percent of the vote.
The special election was triggered when Bonn, a Republican, resigned to seek the seat of Caldwell County Judge. He will face Democratic nominee Morris Alexander in the November General Election.
The winner of the special election will serve until the term ends, in 2012.
