Cyrier to fill Bonn’s seat on Court

When seated Precinct One Commissioner Tom Bonn decided to throw his hat into the ring in an attempt to become the next Caldwell County Judge, he left in his wake the need to fill his position for the remainder of his term.

That need was met on Monday morning when District Judge Todd A. Blomerth issued the oath of office

to John P. Cyrier (pronounced SEER-ee-ay). A resident of Caldwell County for the last nine years, Cyrier said after being sworn to the Court that he looks forward to helping to serve the needs of the residents of Precinct One.

A graduate of Texas A&M University and a member of the Aggie Band and Corps of Cadets, Cyrier has extensive experience in real estate and development. He served as the general manager and a partner in a nationwide construction firm, before striking out and founding his own commercial construction company in 2008.

Seated County Judge H.T. Wright chose Cyrier to fill the position vacated by Bonn. However, Wright was unavailable early this week to answer questions as to how the selection process was performed, and his reasons for choosing Cyrier.

The new commissioner’s introduction to the business of the county was gentle, as only a few items were posted on the agenda for Monday’s regular meeting of the Commissioners’ Court, and those were mostly informational.

At the request of Caldwell County Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Parker, the Court opted to leave the outdoor burning ban off. However, Parker noted that winter conditions, and in particular last week’s freezing temperatures, have created dry conditions throughout Caldwell County. He urged residents to practice extreme caution if they choose to burn outdoors.

The Commissioners approved an amended preliminary plat for the Spanish Oaks Estates subdivision, which is being planned Sierra Drive (CR 113).

County Auditor Sonny Rougeou introduced a “Red Flag Rules” plan of action to help protect the County against identity theft.

The Caldwell County Commissioners’ Court meets on the second, third and fourth Monday of each month at 9 a.m. in Room 100 of the Caldwell County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend.
