Daisy Veola Wright
Daisy Veola Wright was born the eleventh of eleven children on July 13, 1921, in Lockhart, Texas, to the late, Jim A. Wright, Sr. and Mittie Wright.
She attended Carver High School in Lockhart, Texas.
Daisy’s favorite passtime was volunteering and helping people. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of First Baptist Church (514 Neches St. in Lockhart) f
or 17.5 years and a member at St. John United Baptist Church for 22 years where, Rev. John E. Morris, Jr. was her pastor at both churches.
She was active in the church until her health failed and she loved going to church. She was secretary and member of Mission II, secretary and member of the Usher Board, secretary, and acting superintendent of the Sunday School.
She also participated in Mission II at the Guadalupe District Association in San Antonio, Texas.
She raised seven children: Lula Black, Douglas Wright, Cheryl Sowell, Willie J. Wright, Carol Franklin, Charles Wright and Billie Spencer.
Four brothers preceded her in death: Curtis Wright, Ernest Wright, Elisha Wright and Jim Wright, Jr.; oldest grandchild, George Johnson; and five sisters: Bessie Roland, Essie Wright, Nettie Johnson, Lettie Wright, Rose Lillie Fuller and Zola Mae Wilkens, all from Lockhart, Texas.
Daisy Veola Wright leaves to mourn her seven children, 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one expecting great-grandchild; four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas. Services were at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the First Baptist Church with, Rev. John E. Morris officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: James Edward Wilson, Jr., Boderick Spencer, Pierre Spencer, Gyrone Scott, Curtis Wright, Jr., and Sherman Wilkens. Honorary Pallbearers were: Douglas Eugene Wright, Willie James Wright and Charles Jerome Wright. Interment followed at Lockhart City Cemetery, Lockhart, Texas.
