David G. “Big Dave” Serrato, Jr.
Mr. David G. “Big Dave” Serrato, Jr., a devoted father, husband, grandfather and brother, age 74, of Lockhart, was called by our Lord on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005.
Mr. Serrato was preceded in death by his parents, David and Soledad Serrato; brothers, Samuel Serrato and Abraham Serrato; an infant daughter, Yolanda Serrato; and a sister, Beatrice Soto.
He is survived b
y his wife, Ramona Serrato; children, Mary Garcia, Albert Mendez, Gloria McClain, Diane Delgado (Jimmy), Belia Martinez (Alberto), David Serrato, III, Melinda Oliva and Xavier Espinosa; sisters, Lucy Serrato and Estella Afanador; brothers, Rudy Serrato and Genaro Ybarra; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Serrato was a Korean War Vet, as well as a U.S. Marine vet, and a member of the American Legion Post 41 in Lockhart and the Pan American Club. As a prominent member of the community, he was on the original Lockhart City Charter. Mr. Serrato was awarded the Pioneer Businessman Award by the Lockhart Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and was a lifelong member of the St. Mary”s Catholic Church. Mr. Serrato”s concern for the Hispanic community was longstanding as witnessed by his membership in the Raza Unida Party and tireless involvement with and encouragement of Lockhart”s Hispanic youth.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary”s Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, also at St. Mary”s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary”s Cemetery.
