Earl C. Rodenberg, Jr., died peacefully at the age of 94 in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 1, 2017.
Earl was born on Jan. 20, 1923, in Austin, Texas, to Annelee Rodenberg and Earl C. Rodenberg, Sr., of Lockhart, Texas. He married Sarah Jane (Sally) Rodenberg while serving in the Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, Earl and Sally settled in Old Ocean, Texas where Earl worked for Phillips Petroleum Company until he retired to Clute, Texas, and then eventually Austin. Earl was also a Master Mason at the Masonic Lodge in Sweeny, Texas as well as a faithful member of Old Ocean Baptist Church, Willow Drive Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, and Bannockburn Baptist Church in South Austin.
He is survived by daughter Lori Ann Meyer, of San Diego, Calif.; daughter-in-law Merlyn Rodenberg, of Tyler; grandchildren Michael Keith and Anna Rodenberg, both of Southlake, Kristi Kay Rodenberg Hooten and husband, Todd, of Prosper, Wendy Meyer Fry, of San Diego, Calif., and Megan Danielle Meyer, of San Francisco, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren. Earl is preceded in death by his wife, Sally, and his oldest child, Earl Charles Rodenberg. Earl was supported in life by his extended family Lori Sue Atkins, of Houston, and many loyal friends from his time at Gold’s Gym in South Austin.
Dr. Ken Baldwin officiated a graveside service scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. at 11 a.m. at Lockhart Municipal Burial Park, Lockhart, Texas. A special thank you goes out to his caregivers at Brookdale Westlake Hills and Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be directed to Christopher House.
