Edna Kay Childers, 87, of Broken Arrow, Okla., departed from this world on May 22, 2007 at Southcrest Hospital, in Tulsa, Okla.
Edna was born March 9, 1920 in Russelville, Ala., to AD and Geneva Gertrude (Strapp) Whitlock.
Edna was noted for her outstanding Avon sales work, making the President”s Club for 20 years. She also help her husband in his work with the c

hurches he served, including Lytton Springs Baptist in the 1950″s and Trinity Baptist, Lockhart in the 1960″s. She was initiated to the Order of the Eastern Star at Lockhart Chapter #210 Order of the Eastern Star while living in Caldwell County. She also operated an upholstery shop for a number of years. She was a member of Battle Creek Baptist Church, Tulsa, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 61 years, Rev. Anderson John Childers, Sr.; infant daughter Tennie Jean; five brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by her sons and daughters: Anderson John Childers, Jr. and wife Susan, of Glenburn, N.D., Michael Joe Childers and wife Sarah, of Tulsa, Okla. Geneva Jane Efird, and husband Tom of Lockhart, and Janet Kay Lipska and husband Dean of Altus, Okla. Brothers Joseph Whitlock, of Oklahoma City, Okla, and Davis and George Whitlock of Henryetta, Okla.; one brother-in-law, Owen 0. Childers, Tulsa, Okla. She had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One of her grandsons was very special to her: Joseph Mann Cantero, who lived with her and took care of her in her last years.
Her funeral service was held on May 25, 2007, at Christian-Gavlik Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weleetka, Okla. with Rev. Ed Bateman and Rev. Charles Puckett, officiating. Her pallbearers were her grandsons Mike, John, Joseph and Christian Cantero, Wesley Childers, and nephew, Joe T. Starks.
The Broken Arrow Chapter #140 Order of the Eastern Star presented the Eastern Star services.
