Ethel Rae Hawkes entered into the Kingdom of God and claimed her crown of glory on Dec. 2, 2012. Ethel was born Feb. 26, 1918, to Ernest William Hawkes and Flora Della Case Hawkes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Ethel attended school in Austin, Texas. She worked at Studers, Kelly AFB and AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company in San Antonio and Houston, Texas. After retirement in 197

9, she worked for John D. Chelkowski, DDS, in Houston. She enjoyed reading, fishing with her nephews, and traveling with her nieces and nephews, growing beautiful plants and working in her yard feeding all the stray cats in the neighborhood. She attended Northwest Baptist Church and Berachah Church in Houston and Alamo Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Annette Smith Lacy (Bill), Nikki Hawkes Rundle (Bruce), Keith Hawkes, Larry Hawkes, John Chelkowski (Brenda) and Michael Chelkowski; great-nieces and great-nephews: Judy Cathey (Fred), Cindy Treadway (John), Lindsey Rundle, Brent Rundle, Mark Lee Hawkes and Caron Chelkowski Boeselt (Joe); great-great-nieces and –nephews: Amanda Cathey McWhorter (Billy), Ryan Cathey, Megan Treadway Brown (Clayton), Jennifer Treadway and Robert Treadway; and one great-great-great nephew, Drew Treadway. She is also survived by many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sisters, Luella Hawkes Smith and Edna Chelkowski Tamborello; her brother, Kenneth Hawkes; and two infant brothers born and died in Alaska.

She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed. We wish to thank Chisolm Trail Nursing and Rehab for their care and Central Texas Medical Center for their care.

Funeral services will be graveside at Fentress Community Cemetery, County Rd. 277 (Seneca Loop) at Hwy. 80, Fentress, Texas, on Saturday, Dec. 8, with a viewing at 1 p.m. and a service following at 2 p.m.
