Frances Black Livengood was born Oct. 12, 1928 in Delhi, Texas, to Myrtle and Edgar Black Sr.  She and her big brother Edgar Jr. enjoyed many happy days in that small community. The family later moved to Lockhart where Edgar, Sr., started Northside Market and Black’s BBQ.  Fran’s childhood was scarred by the untimely death of her mother Myrtle in 1936. Happiness was resto

red through the marriage of Edgar, Sr., to Scottie Lee and her daughter, Jenny Mae. Much love and laughter filled that home on Walnut Street.

Fran developed many lifelong friendships during her schooldays.  She loved cheering for the football team, especially the handsome center, Albert Livengood.  She and Albert married Sept. 3, 1947, after her graduation from Lockhart High School, and began their marriage living in converted army barracks, otherwise known as married student housing, on the campus of Texas A & M. When Albert graduated they returned to Lockhart where Albert worked in agriculture and Fran worked at home raising their four children: Jan, Burt, Jill, and Mike. She relished her role as The Mother.

Fran enjoyed playing bridge and bowling with her large circle of friends.  Her mornings weren’t complete without a cup of coffee and the daily crossword, and her afternoons were best with “As the World Turns.” She had a special touch with plants and enjoyed many peaceful moments in her greenhouse. Fran overcame her fear of flying, developing a true passion for world travel. She travelled the far reaches of the globe, from Africa to Asia to Australia and Europe. Her fondest travel memories involved snorkeling the waters of the Caribbean Ocean. She planted the seeds for love of travel among her eleven grandchildren by taking each on a very special senior trip.

Fran’s heart was once again pierced with sadness when Albert died suddenly in 1987, less than three months from their 40th anniversary.  She spent many sorrowful times watering plants with unending tears, comforted by her beloved dog, Ginger. She added ballroom dancing to her hobbies, initially to fill time, but continued for years because she possessed true talent. Fran lost her son Mike in 2008, mourning his passing until her own death on Sept. 21, 2015.

Fran leaves behind a large family that will remember her forever, including: daughters, Jan Pittman and husband, Gary, and Jill McCan and husband, Richard; son, Burt Livengood and wife, Gail; grandchildren: Darren Pittman and wife, Courtney, Brandon Pittman and wife, Kristy, Becki Reed, Shauna McCan, Justin McCan and fiancé, Shay Monson, Brynn Titus and husband, Jeff, Whitney Thorp and husband, Ted, Maura Livengood, Jason Livengood and wife, Jessica, Jessica Livengood and fiancé, Chris Smith, and Zane Livengood and wife, Sammi; great-grandchildren, Rio Pittman, Cruz Pittman, Liberty Pittman, Wyatt Pittman, Khristyn Parra, Nikolas Parra, Lola McCan, Rhyleigh McCan, Payton McCan, Chelsea Titus, Erin Titus, Nathaniel Smith and Greyson Livengood; brother, Edgar Black, Jr., and wife, Norma Jean; and step-sister, Jenny Mae Lapoint. Fran also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as her cherished dog, Coco.

Funeral services were planned at McCurdy Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015. Interment to follow at Lockhart City Cemetery.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this wonderful woman. I have such great memories of bowling with Fran & Albert for many years. Such a sweet woman, I know she will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
