George E. Swartz, 83, of Lockhart, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos.
He was born on July 1, 1922, in Bedford, Ind., to Orville E. and Nina June (Baker) Swartz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Dorothy Holcomb on Sept.16, 1950, in Lockhart.
He was the owner of the Western Auto Store

in Lockhart before he retired in 1980. He had been an active Troop Leader of the Lockhart Boy Scouts Troop 109. He was also active in the Friendship Class at the First Lockhart Baptist Church, of which he was a member.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Nina Swartz.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. Swartz of Lockhart; son Mark Swartz of Folsom, Calif.; brother Jon Swartz of Austin; four grandchildren, Matthew Swartz and Kassie, Karrie and Kurt Esbenshade; and one great-grandchild, Colby Esbenshade.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in the McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Rodgers officiating. Interment followed in the Lockhart City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Hardwick, Mike Tate, Morris Alexander, Lowe Galle, Russell Moore and Wayne Flores. Honorary pallbearers were the First Lockhart Baptist Church Friendship Class members, George Sherrill, Jiggs Walker, Joe Chesser, George Featherston, Sr, and Floyd Bowen.
Memorials in honor of George may be made to the First Lockhart Baptist Church, 315 W. Prairie Lea St., Lockhart, Texas 78644.
