George Marlon McGee
October 27, 1926-June 14, 2025
George Marlon McGee, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and lifelong steward of the land, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 98.
Born on October 27, 1926, in McMahan, Texas, Marlon was the son of George Riley McGee and Myrtle (Reed) McGee. He was a 1945 graduate of Lockhart High School and a United States Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his six sisters and three brothers.
A lifelong farmer and rancher, Marlon was a dedicated conservationist of the land settled by his grandfather, embodying a legacy of hard work, resilience, respect for the earth, and preservation of the land for future generations. His interest in agricultural innovations led him to be featured in Progressive Farmer magazine for his planting and grazing of a new beef cattle forage. His service extended beyond the family ranch — he was a volunteer firefighter, director of the Caldwell-Travis Soil & Water Conservation District, and a charter member of the Caldwell County Farm Bureau. For many years he carefully placed United States flags on veteran graves at Jeffrey Cemetery. He was always eager to lend a hand to neighbors.
Marlon is survived by his wife, Ada Grace (Harrison) McGee; his daughter, Marla Heger and her husband Ryan; grandson Cole Heger; granddaughter Mallory Smith and her husband Wiley, and great-grandson, Wiley George Lastrapes IV. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service at Jeffrey Cemetery will be held in his memory.
