Gertrude Renker Wright of Lockhart, formerly of Edinburg, passed away at the age of 93 on June 23, 2006. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother,and grandmother, known as “Grammy.”
Gertrude was born to Edward Antone and Ida (Sussdorf) Renker on Feb. 27, 1913, in Guadalupe County. She graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas. She married

Carl C. Wright in 1932 and lived in several central Texas locations. In 1951, they moved to Edinburg where she served for 24 years as the bursar at Pan American University.
As a member of the United Methodist Church, she was very active in the United Methodist Women and Emmaus, serving in various mission positions through the years as well as church treasurer and a primary teacher. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Irving Club, and the Lockhart Reading Group, as well as the Garden Club and Study Group in Edinburg. Many were blessed by her hospitality and enjoyed her handcrafts, needlework and quilting.
Gertrude is survived by her husband of 73 years, Carl C. Wright; her daughter and son-in-law, Carlene and Henry Tomlin of Bastrop; her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Wanda Wright of Bella Vista, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Kenneth James Tomlin, JoDee Myatt, Larry Wright, Lorna Wright; her great grandchildren, Carlton Tomlin, Brady Myatt, James Adam Myatt, Kendall Merryman and Brandi Merryman; one sister, Violet Muennink of Austin; and one brother, Edward Renker of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ida Renker, and by one brother, John Renker.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2006, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart with Rev. Bob Hahn officiating. Interment followed in the Lytton Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carlton Tomlin, Gary Myatt, Kenneth Muennink, Edgar Lee Wright, Fred Weber and Jason Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Kendall Merryman, Brandi Merryman, Brady Myatt and Adam James Myatt.
Memorials may be made in Gertrude”s memory to the First United Methodist Church of Lockhart or a charity of choice.
