Harry Meyer
Harry Meyer, 84, of Lockhart, passed away on Nov. 8, 2012. in San Marcos, Texas. He was born May 20, 1928 in Poth, Texas, where he grew up and graduated in 1945. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Texas A&I University at Kingsville. Later, he did post-graduate work at Texas A&M, receiving his Texas Administrator/Supervisor certificatio
n. Completing his formal education, he did post-graduate work in physics and chemistry at Colorado State University, South Dakota School of Mines (Rapid City), and St. Cloud University (Minnesota).
Harry was an educator in Texas schools for 47 years. He taught four years at Fayetteville High School, four years at Hempstead High School, 10-and-a-half years as a principal in the Hempstead Schools, and 28-and-a-half years as a Central Office Administrator in the Lockhart schools.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willye Lou; his parents, Frank and Rosa Meyer; brothers, Milton, Elmo and Francis Meyer; and a sister, Mildred Meyer.
He is survived by daughters Marilyn Scott and husband, Mike, of New Braunfels, and Patricia Schneider and husband, Chris, of Lockhart; and grandchildren: Andrew Scott, of Houston, Kevin Scott, of New Braunfels, Kristen Schneider and husband, Jason Wang, of Atlanta, Ga., and Laura Schneider, of Longview. He is also survived by his brother Will Meyer and wife, Rosemary, of Lafayette, La.
Visitation with family members was scheduled at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
A funeral mass was planned at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart with Father Goertz officiating. Interment will follow at Lockhart City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chris Schneider, Mike Scott, Andrew Scott, Kevin Scott, Jason Wang, Larry Meyer, Mark Meyer, Mike Meyer, Steve Meyer and Carlos Salinas.
Memorial contributions may be made to Top 10 Scholarship Fund at Lockhart High School or RIF (Reading is Fundamental -Lockhart) in memory of Harry Meyer.
