History preservation continues in St. John’s Colony

On Juneteenth, Americans commemorate the emancipation of the last slaves in the United States. It’s an opportunity to celebrate African-American history and heritage.

On June 16, Caldwell County residents who grew up near or live in the historically African-American St. John’s Colony northeast of Lockhart did just that as they gathered near the St. John’s School Museum, which was newly minted with a sign erected last Thursday in time for the community’s annual celebration.
