James Henrich “Toppie” Haun, 90, died peacefully at his home in Lockhart on June 27, 2009. He was born in Lockhart on Nov. 21, 1918, to Willie F. and Charleen Henrich Haun.
On June 4, 1941, he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Jean Fehr, and they enjoyed 66 wonderful years together. Making their life in Lockhart, they were surrounded by a network of longtime fri

ends and family who they felt fortunate to share their lives with.

After graduating from Lockhart High School in 1936, he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, graduating in 1941 with a Bachelor”s Degree in Business Administration.

In 1947 he went into business with his father, Willie Haun, and started W.F. Haun and Son, a heating and air conditioning business in Lockhart. He was a highly-respected businessman who took pride and satisfaction in his work as a contractor. Sixty-two years later, his son and grandson continue to run the family-owned business that he started.

Toppie”s pastimes included ranching, hunting, fishing and music. In the late 1930s he played piano in a dance band that played throughout Central Texas. He and Betty Jean enjoyed many years of RV camping and other travel with their friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie F. and Charleen Haun; wife, Betty Jean Fehr Haun; and sister, Arthurine Brice.

He is survived by son, James Alan Haun and wife, Debbie; daughter, Betty Jo Pierce and husband, Archie; grandchildren: James T. Haun, Holly Gail Haun and Sara Pierce Porterfield; niece, Lynn Brice Hayes; and nephews, Donaly E. Brice, Kearby Fehr, Scott Fehr, Kent Fehr and Clark Fehr.

The family accepted friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Hahn officiating. Interment followed at the Lockhart City Cemetery.
