Jerry Medlock
Funeral Services for Jerry W. Medlock, 85, of Rusk, were scheduled at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Rusk First Baptist Church under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home. Dr. Jacob Fitzgerald and Bro. Donnie Barron and will be officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Dr. Medlock was born in Texas City, Texas, on Dec. 27, 1930, to the late Cle
burne Aubrey Long, and Nell Howard Long Medlock. He graduated from LaMarque High School in 1948. He graduated from Presbyterian College, in Clinton, South Carolina in 1953 in Chemistry, and made the Dean’s list. He then attended Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland.
He served in the United States Army Dental Corps as a Captain, for five years in Louisiana and Germany. He practiced dentistry in Lockhart, Texas, for 18 years and taught eight years at the UT San Antonio Dental School. He also contracted with the United States Navy to serve in Bangor, Wash., for four years. He retired in May 1994, in Rusk, Texas.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iris Camilla Medlock; five children: Jerry Wayne Medlock, Jr, of Dallas, Karen Elisabeth Sweet, of Irving, Janet Lynn Reaves, of Corpus Christi, Pamela Kay Brecht, of Key West, Fla., and Stephen Andrew Medlock, of Corsicana. He has 15 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He has one brother living in Dickinson, Texas.
Visitation was held from 5- 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the funeral home.
