Mrs. Norvella Thomas was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Lockhart, Texas, to the union of Clarence and Emma Ellison. She was the eighth of 13 children. Four brothers and seven sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Thomas professed a love for Christ at an early age. Her religious training began at Daniel Chapel Methodist Church. As an adult, she joined St. Mark’s United Methodist Ch

urch where she worked diligently as a devoted member for more than 60 years.

In 1947, Norvella was united in marriage to Carroll A. Thomas, Sr. To this union, four children were born: Carrol Jr., John, Doris and Dyral. Their family also included another daughter, Dora.

Mrs. Thomas was very active in and a strong supporter of the programs and activities of which her children were a part. She served as the Boy Scout den mother, baseball team mother, Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsor, Girl Scout leader, PTA officer, homeroom mom and more.

She believed that education is the key that opens the door of opportunity. She instilled in her children that failure is not an option and encouraged their educational pursuits.

Mrs. Thomas leaves a host of relatives to cherish her memory, including: three sons, Carrol A. Thomas, Jr. (Linda) of Beaumont, John Thomas, of Lockhart, and Dyral Thomas, of Lockhart; a daughter, Doris Hayes (Alex), of Port Arthur; a brother, Clarence Ellison, Jr., of San Antonio; a special adopted son, Rathers Asberry, of Lockhart; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart. Services were held Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. May Fletcher and Rev. Sylvester Chase officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Anthony Campbel, Charles Branch, Howard Thompson, Nathaniel Bennett, Andre Schuler, Jabari Hayes and Trenton Thomas. Interment followed at Hooks Cemetery in Lockhart, Texas.
