Joe Bob Marlatt, age 48, lifelong resident Lockhart, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2026, in Austin, Texas. He was born on January 22, 1978 to Jim Bob & Carolyn Marlatt.
Joe Bob graduated from Lockhart High School in 1996 and attended Texas State Technical College, earning an associate degree in HVAC. He later completed his NEIEP apprenticeship with the International Union of Elevator Constructors in 2006.
For 26 years, Joe Bob proudly worked as an Elevator Mechanic with IUEC Local 133. He took immense pride in his trade and found great satisfaction in mentoring others, watching many grow into successful mechanics and leaders.
Joe Bob was actively involved in the Caldwell County Junior Livestock Show, and in his community, and skeet shooting competitions. He loved animals and passed his love of stock shows on to his children. An avid hunter and skilled marksman, he also enjoyed fishing along the Texas coast. Joe Bob loved cooking for family and friends. Anything he could grill, smoke, or barbecue, and his seafood boils were a specialty.
Joe Bob and his wife Amanda (Brooks) were married June 6, 2014 and built a wonderful life together raising three children, Colton, Kylie & Jemma. A man of quiet strength and quick wit, he was a devoted husband and father, a steady source of wisdom, encouragement, and support for his children’s dreams. He was also a beloved son and brother and a supportive uncle who took pride in his family and was always there when they needed him.
Joe Bob is survived by his wife, Amanda; children, Colton Roberts-Marlatt (Lillie Morrison), Kylie Marlatt, and Jemma Marlatt; mother, Carolyn Marlatt; sisters, Terri Bailey, husband, Marshall and Kathy Avila, husband, Greg; lifelong friend and brother at heart, Gerry Butts, Jr., wife Amanda; niece, Sheridan Smith; nephews, Tanner Conroy, Trey Butts, and Garret Butts; and many loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Bob Marlatt; grandparents, Lewis and Malinda Petrosky and Ed & Florence Marlatt. Uncles Carroll Petrosky, Edward T. Marlatt and Edward H. Marlatt, Jr.
