John Philip Callaghan

John Phillip “J.P.” Callaghan, 81, of Lockhart, formerly of Channelview, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2009. J.P. Callaghan was born on Oct. 4, 1927, in Bastrop County, Texas to William Wallace and Amelia Callaghan.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Wallace; his mother, Amelia Callaghan; wife, Anita Doris Callaghan; brothers: Jerome and Charles Cal

laghan; sister, Celeste Gunn; and grandson, Yancy Ray Callaghan.

J.P. Callaghan is survived by his brothers: Oliver, Myles and Joe Callaghan; sister-in-law Joyce Callaghan, sons: James, Charles and Dennis Callaghan all of Lockhart, and Kevin and daughter-in-law Julia, of Cedar Park. He was also blessed to have many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Callaghan retired from Shell Chemical Company in Deer Park, Texas after 40 years of service. He retired as a maintenance supervisor in the Resins Department. He moved to Lockhart for his retirement, to raise cattle and farm.

The family accepted friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at McCurdy Memorial Chapel in Lockhart. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009, at San Jacinto Cemetery and Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers were James Callaghan, Charles Callaghan, Kevin Callaghan, Justin Callaghan, Glenn Callaghan and Ryan Callaghan. Honorary pallbearer was Dennis Callaghan.
