Julius Stephens
Julius M. Stephens, of Lockhart, passed away on Dec. 11, 2012. He was born on March 6, 1916, in Hico, Texas, to John and Stella Stephens.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Gene; by his brothers, Luther, H.D. “Red”, Roy, Ray and Lee Stephens; and sisters, Mae McCorley and Ruth Keuck.
Julius is survived by his two sons, Ronnie Stephens and Scott Stephen
s and wife, Kathy, of Kyle; grandson, Scott Stephens Jr., granddaughter, Kelly McGovern and grandson, Clinton Mapes, and one adopted granddaughter, Amanda Mayers, of Lockhart.
After WWII, Julius and his brothers Luther and Roy started Stephens Automotive Garage. In 1952 they opened City Auto Parts store in Lockhart. Julius retired from that store in July 1985.
During his life in Lockhart, Julius served as a Minor League Baseball Coach, BSA Scoutmaster and Order of the Arrow Member, and was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and President of the Church Council for many years. He was also a founding member of the Lockhart Evening Lions Club where he served many positions up to the role of District Governor.
One of Julius’ proudest accomplishments was reaching the goal of 66 years’ service to the American Legion Post 41, where he was Post Commander five times.
Julius Stephens was laid to rest Dec. 15 at Memory Lawn in Martindale, Texas, with Pastor Bryan Dziadik-Willingham officiating. Pallbearers were Ruperto Gonzales, Chris Schneider, Paul Stephens, Jim Sells, Michael and Mitch Hudson, and Ronnie and Terry Schulze. Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Rooksberry, Tom Stephens, John Stephens and members of the Lockhart Evening Lions Club and American Legion Post 41.
