JV Lady Lions fall short

The JV Lady Lions traveled to Cedar Park on Dec. 20 to take on the Lady Rangers in district 26-4A contest.

It was a long night for the Lady Lions, who could never acquire their shooting touch, coaches said. The Lady Rangers, however, were extremely hot from the field, scoring ten, 11, ten and 17 in the quarters respectively.

Vista Ridge led 21-9 at the halftime

Lady Lions Naomi Oliva and Aly Daily led the team in steals with three each. Shelly Castro led the Lady Lions in rebounds with four. Dani Beltran grabbed three rebounds and forced turnovers with a steal and three deflections. She also scored four points.

The Lady Rangers continued to put points on the board and led 31-15 after the third quarter.
As Lockhart continued the battle, three Lady Lions made key plays in the fourth quarter for Lockhart.

Daily scored seven points, adding to her game-high 12 points. Beltran and Oliva scored two and one respectively, while Camille Burrhus-Clay added four and Jenee Burrhus-Clay picked up two. Ceci Smith, Janie Juarez and Leandra Garcia rotated in at the guard position.

Vista Ridge put constant pressure on the Lockhart guards all night. The Lady Rangers caused 30 turnovers for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lion J.V. team is now 4-5 on the season and 1-1 in district play.
