JV Lions devour Lobos 82-53, get trampled by Buffaloes 64-35

The Junior Varsity Lions basketball team traveled to Kyle to face the Lehman Lobos on Friday, Jan. 11. The JV Lions were more than ready to fight for their game and they went on to devour the Lobos 82-53.
The Lions were on fire in Lobo territory and the score is proof. Scoring 19 points for the Lions and earning the high score
r title for the night was Greg McAfee, who scored 10 in the second quarter. Tied for second in scoring with 13 points apiece were Adam Renteria and Trent Albert. Renteria scored half of his points in the second quarter while Albert scored half of his in the third.
The rest of the night’s points came from Ricky Rodriguez with nine, Roy Garcia and Dustin Watkins with six each, Mario Martinez with five, Sergio Juarez and Brain Martinez, who each scored four and Octavio Terrazas with three.
The Lions started slow with seven players scoring a two-pointer each and an eighth player scoring a two-pointer and a free throw for a total of 17 points in the first quarter. The Lobos scored 14.
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Lions, who scored 22 points while allowing only nine from the Lobos, for a score of 39-23 at the end of the first half.
After half time break the Lions, dealt with a determined Lobos team. Both teams fought hard to keep possession of the ball, scoring evenly until the end of the third. The Lions scored 18 points while the Lobos had their best quarter with a total of 17 points. The third ended with the Lions way ahead, 57-40.
The fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter for the Lions with 25 points. The Lobos made 13 for a final score of 82-53.
The Lions had a tough time playing against the Clemens Buffaloes on Tuesday, Jan. 8. They were practically shut out during the first three quarters, scoring only six points in the first, five in the second and three in the third. The Buffaloes, on the other hand, scored 16 points in the first, 20 in the second and 13 in the third.
By the time the Lions came to, it was too late. The Buffaloes had stampeded them and slacked off towards the end scoring only 15 points. The 21 points the Lions scored in the fourth were not enough to make a dent. The game ended at 64-35.
Rodriguez scored 11 points in the Clemens game. Renteria scored nine, Terrazas, B. Martinez and Albert each scored four, McAfee score two and M. Martinez scored one.

The Lions will travel to Del Valle to face the Cardinals on Friday, Jan 18.
