The Junior Varsity Lions ended their baseball season with a 9-6 win against the Del Valle Cardinals at Del Valle on Friday, April 25.
The big win came after officials called the game with Del Valle at the plate with one out when the lightning meter registered a reading that showed lightning too close to the field.
The Li

ons produced ten hits and nine runs before the game was called, guaranteeing them the win.
“Ryan Hitter did a good job of keeping the ball down,” Coach James Patton said.
On the mound, Hitter gave up six runs, two of which were earned. He also gave up three hits and three base-on-balls before striking out seven Cardinals for the win.
The ten hits and nine runs came from Lions Samuel Yanez, Lee Brummett, Cody James, Josh Flores, Bryan Mendez, Joseph Garcia, Will Rodriguez and Ryan Hitter.
Yanez was 2-3, had a triple, two runs and one RBI. Brummett was 2-3 with a double and one run. James was 2-3 with four RBIs. Flores was 1-2 with a double and two runs. Mendez was 1-2 with a double, one run and one RBI. Garcia was 1-3 with one run. Rodriguez was 1-3 with one run and Hitter had one run and one RBI.
The JV Lions ended their season with a 5-8 district record and a 9-13 overall record.
“This was a good bunch of kids,” Patton said. “They worked hard both during the off-season and the regular season. They just need to keep playing together during the summer and continue working hard. Many of them will find themselves playing at the next level.”
The Lions started last week with a 15-1 loss against New Braunfels on Monday, April 21. Poor hitting and seven errors helped in handing the big win to the Unicorns.
The Lions produced only four hits and one run against the Unicorns. Hitter was 2-3 and scored the only run. Garcia was 1-3 while Mendez was 1-2 with one RBI.
“I would like to thank all of the parents who supported the team and their sons,” Patton said. “I seemed as though we always had a bigger support group of fans at home than out of town. I would also like to thank all those that helped out in any way.”
See you next season.
