L.J.H. football takes on Dahlstrom

The Lockhart Junior High School football program matched up against hays Dahlstrom last Tuesday, Oct. 11. The 7th grade teams hosted the Dahlstrom teams, while the 8th grade teams traveled to Hays.
The Lions will meet Wallace on the field Tuesday, Oct. 25, with 7th grade hosting at home and 8th grade on the road. Game start at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

8th grade “Maroo

n” Team
The 8th grade “maroon” team fought hard against Dahlstrom, but fell short, 18-30.
Brian Martinez scored the first touchdown for the Lions on a 55-yard run up the middle of the field. Nolan Lockhart completed the second touchdown on a 60-yard run. Lockhart and David Dinh teamed up for the third touchdown for Lockhart. Te offensive line was led by Samuel Yanez, Dion Turner, Will Rodriguez, Tony Moreno, Blake Sander, Kevin Rodriguez, and Lawrence Brite.
Blake Sander played well on the defensive end with Robert Castaneda and Samuel Yanez making some key tackles.
“The team played well,” Coach Gifford Whitehead said. “The offensive line did a good job of blocking. We led for most of the game, but we had some mental mistakes towards the end of the game that hurt us.
“The team is working hard to get back in the winning column,” he added.

8th Grade “White” Team
The 8th grade “white” team met Dahlstrom on the field delivering a shutout game, 14-0, against the skilled Hays team.
Blake Fehr scored twice for the Lions with a 70-yard run on a kick return and a 6-yard run on the outside.
Tyler Talley completed a 15-yard pass to Manuel Hernandez making a nice catch. Talley also scored a two-point conversion off a bootleg play.
Defensively, Jordan Officer and J.D. Martinez made some key tackles.
“This was a good win after a tough loss last week,” Coach Steven Gilpin said. “The team is playing well and is looking forward to our game next week against Barton.”

7th Grade “Maroon” Team
The 7th grade “maroon” team played hard against Dahlstrom; however, their efforts weren”t enough as they lost 6-32.
Jacob Alvarez ran around the right side for a 5-yard touchdown to score for the Lions. The touchdown was set up by Brooks Pittman”s 55-yard run down tot he 5-yard-line.
Blane Spear had a great defensive game for Lockhart. Spear made one sack against Dahlstrom”s quarterback and completed several strong tackles.
“The offense moved the ball well throughout the game, but three turnovers really hurt us on big drives,” Coach Mark Elder said. “Jacob Alvarez made the transition from fullback to quarterback and did a great job.”

7th Grade “White” Team
The 7th grade “white” team continues to struggle to get a win on their record. Dahlstrom defeated Lockhart 19-8.
Josh Sanders scored the Lions first touchdown of the season by completing a 15-yard run.
Defensively, Matthew Blagder and Bryce Allen each stopped the Dahlstrom run up the middle.
“Our offense improved tremendously this week,” said Coach Russell Krenek. “If the Lions can capitalize on both ends of the football, then good things could start to happen.”
