Lady Lions dominate in early season play

The Lady Lion soccer team has been fighting their way through the district competition. Last Tuesday, the Lady Lions traveled to take on the Manor Mustangs. In a closely contested match, the Lady Lions squeezed out a victory 2-1.
This past Friday, the Lions played a crucial match against Elgin. The Lady Lions wasted little time and put a goal in early courtesy of ju

nior forward Lindy Chamberlain. Elgin then struck right back and scored an equalizing goal in the next five minutes. The Lions fought back and put in two more goals before half, thanks to junior midfielder Bri Hinnenkamp and freshmen midfielder Megan Corbitt, respectively. The Lady Lions shut down the Elgin attack in the second half, limiting the opponents scoring chances the keeping the ball out of the net. The Lion attack kept on pressing and added two more goals in the second half. Chamberlain scored the first goal of the two, with senior Ashley Simon earning the assist. Hinnenkamp netted her second goal of the match with another assist from Simon. When time expired, the Lions earned another district victory, 5-1.
The Lady Lions are 3-1-0 in district play. Their next game is Friday versus Del Valle at Lion Stadium. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., with the varsity match following at 7:45 p.m.
