Lady Lions vs. Taylor
The Lockhart Lady Lion volleyball teams hosted the Taylor Lady Ducks on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Lions” Den.
The Lady Ducks went home with wins over the varsity and freshman teams; however, the junior varsity team overpowered the Lady Ducks with scores of 25-18 and 25-18.
In the varsity match up,

Taylor swept Lockhart aside with a 25-15 win over the Lady Lions in the first game.
The Lady Lions had a close-scoring second game against their opponents. The Lady Ducks used strong defensive blocking at the net to put points on the scoreboard. The Lady Lions trailed closely behind until the score was tied at 20 points after Kelly Witte”s double attack at the net. Lockhart then made a few crucial mistakes that cost them the game. The Lady Lions gave Taylor a 26-24 victory.
For the third game, the first 10 points became a battle of who could hold the lead between the district rivals. Taylor came out on top after gaining a 21-10 lead over Lockhart. The Lady Lions fought back with strong serves from Venoris Carter and Krystal Laws. Leading 23-20, Taylor finalized their victory with strong attacks at the net.
Contributing points for the Lady Lions was Ashley Moore and Witte with two aces. Playing strong at the net was Witte with 11 kills and Laws with seven kills. Setting up the attacks was Laws and Witte with 12 assists each.
Defensively leading the Lady Lions at the net was Natalie Raemsch with four blocks. Hustling to every loose ball was Brianna Hinnenkamp with 14 digs and Carter with nine digs.
“We played well, but started slow,” said Head Coach Bernice Voigt. “However, the girls picked it up and finished hard.
“We have a really young team. This experience can only help us,” she added.
The defeat gives the Lady Lions a 2-9 district record with their next match up on the road against Pflugerville Hendrickson. The games will start at 5, 6, and 7 p.m.

Lady Lions vs. Connally
The Lady Lions traveled to play the Connally Lady Cougars on Friday, Oct. 14. The junior varsity team was victorious; however, the varsity and freshman teams were not as lucky.
The varsity team battled with Connally in the second and third games, but could not over come their skilled offense.
Leading the Lady Lions on offense was Witte and Moore with six kills each. Setting up the attacks was Laws with 13 assists and Witte with 10 assists. Contributing points at the serving line was Hinnenkamp with three aces.
Defensively, Carter stepped up and hustled to the floor for 10 digs. Defending at the net was Witte, Camille Clay and Hinnenkamp with one block each.
