Lady Lion softball places at tourney

The Lady Lion”s varsity softball team is currently 7-3 with their season record after bringing home a third place trophy from the Floresville tournament this weekend, March 3-4.
The Lady Lions started off last week with a win over Marble Falls on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
The Lady Lions scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the third inning, and t
hree runs in the fifth inning. The final score was 6-2.
Megan Davilla had thirteen strike outs in seven innings. Bobbi Schulle, Zaida Hager, Janie Juarez, Brittany Naumann, Yvette Alarcon, and Courtney Lee all had singles at bat. Noelle Marquina and Janie Juarez had doubles at bat.
In the Floresville Tournament, the Lady Lions played six games. On Friday, Lockhart beat Jourdanton and San Antonio Roosevelt but lost to Beeville. On Saturday, the Lady Lions beat San Antonio Madison.
The win over Madison advanced the Lady Lions to the trophy round. The Lady Lions lost a close one to Floresville, 3-2, which would have put the Lady Lions in the Championship game. A win over Beeville, 3-0, would clinch third place out of ten teams.
Megan Davilla and Adrianna Parra pitched for the Lady Lions with Janie Juarez catching for all six games.
Defensively, the Lady Lions were led by Bobbi Schulle, Yvette Alarcon, Alyssa Gonzales, and Zaida Hager. Noelle Marquina, Erica Griffiths, and Karoline Pfefferkorn ran everything down in the outfield.
Offensively, Courtney Lee and Brianna DeLeon stood out with their pinch-hitting and base-running.
“Congratulations to Bobbi Schulle and Janie Juarez for being selected to the all-tournament team, and to the entire team for outstanding play this past weekend,” Coach Lisa Cone said.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Lady Lions junior varsity softball team demolished the Marble Falls Lady Panthers, 12-1.
The Lions smashed the ball capitalizing on many errors committed by the Lady Panthers.
“At the plate the girls made good contact, making the Panthers defense work,” Coach Alisha Homann said.
Krista Law, Annette McElroy, and Khristyn Parra had singles and RBI”s for the lady Lions.
Although, Lockhart could not secure the shutout, they did continue to score runs and play tight defense.
Pitching for the Lions was April Ruiz and Shelly Castro who had three strikeouts each. The Lady Lions improve their record to 3-0 with their next game against the Vista Ridge Lady Rangers at home on Friday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m.
