The Lockhart High girls’ basketball team won a pair of games over the Thanksgiving break, knocking off Austin McCallum and Luling to even its record at 5-5under first-year LHS Head Coach Elizabeth Harris.

Lockhart played host to Pieper Tuesday night.

In the win over McCallum, 55-51, at the Lions’ Den on Nov. 22, Lockhart had to rally from a 37-25 deficit at halftime. But the Lady Lions outscored McCallum 14-4 in the third quarter and 16-10 in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

LHS senior guard Mylah Johnson paced Lockhart in the win over McCallum with 22 points and five steals, while sophomore forward Rakaia Walker added 17 points and hauled down eight rebounds.

In a 73-34 win at Luling on Nov. 21, Harris’ Lady Lions had little trouble, jumping out to leas of 23-7 after one period of play and 37-16 at halftime. They also led 51-20 after three quarters before taking the foot off the gas.

Walker and Johnson again filled up the stat book for the Lady Lions. Walker led all scorers with 31 points, while Johnson was right behind her with 30. Each of them had eight steals and five rebounds.

Alyssa Martinez had five steals and Tiease Arrazola eight rebounds for Lockhart.
