1928-2024

Lanelle Huddleston Kelley passed away peacefully in her home on July 30, 2024 at the age of 95.

She was born to Jeff and Pearl White Huddleston in McMahan, Texas on December 28, 1928. Lanelle attended the McMahan School, and graduated from Lockhart High School in 1946.  She married her childhood playmate, Guy Kelley, Jr. in 1950, and they built a happy home and life together “a stone’s throw” from each of their childhood homes.  They were blessed with a son, Ray, and a daughter, Bonnie, to whom she was a loving and devoted mother.

Lanelle worked as a bookkeeper for Blanks and Horne Implement Company in Lockhart, Texas until starting her family.  She later returned to the workforce as a teaching assistant for Lockhart Junior High for the next 20+ years, but she considered working alongside her husband on the family land and raising her children as her most rewarding jobs.

A long-time, dedicated member of the McMahan Baptist Church, Lanelle will be remembered for her kind, serving heart, her razor sharp wit, and her big blue eyes.  Her uncanny ability to remember names was a gift that earned her friends wherever she went.  She had an encyclopedic knowledge of and avid enthusiasm for all things sports, especially her beloved Texas Longhorns.  She exercised her extraordinary memory by keeping up with the current celebrities and talk shows, and by playing along with her favorite game shows.

Lanelle was preceded in death by Junior, her husband of 67 years, parents Jeff and Pearl Huddleston, brother Clifford Huddleston and wife, Joyce.  She is survived by son Ray Kelley (Layton, Utah) and daughter Bonnie Kelley (Lockhart, Texas), nephews Wayne Huddleston and family, Gary Woods and family, niece Joyce Woods Moore and family, cousin Sue Bozarth Thomas and family, and many extended family members who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

A special thank you to her caregivers.

The Kelley family received family and friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at McCurdy Funeral Home from 10-11AM. Funeral services began at 11AM with a burial that followed to Jeffrey Cemetery.
