LFD expands wildfire response fleet with new brush truck

The Lockhart Fire Department has strengthened its wildfire response capabilities with the addition of a new Quick Attack brush truck and specialized equipment designed for fighting fires in rugged, off-road terrain.

The project was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Lockhart Fire Department and the City of Lockhart. Funding included $275,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and an additional $16,965 from the city’s general fund.

According to city officials, the new apparatus exceeds NFPA 1900 standards for wildland fire apparatus, providing firefighters with upgraded tools and safety features to better protect the community during wildfire emergencies.

Officials said the investment comes as wildfire threats continue to grow across Central Texas, where dry conditions and high temperatures can quickly fuel dangerous grass and brush fires. The new truck is expected to improve response times and allow crews to access areas traditional fire engines cannot easily reach.

City leaders praised the partnership and funding effort, saying the equipment will help ensure firefighters can respond more safely and effectively when protecting residents, property and open land.
