Lion baseball defeated by Cougars

The Lockhart Lion varsity baseball team lost their second district game of the season to Connolly, 16-10.
The Lions jumped out in front during the first inning with consecutive singles from Michael Wright and Justin Garcia. Both would end up scoring with Clay Ohlendorf being credited with a RBI.

rst to take the lead for the first time.
Lockhart stormed back in the top of the second with four runs to retake the lead.
Dennis Ortiz started the inning by drawing a walk and he was followed by consecutive singles from Jacob Mendez, Andrew Capello, Michael Wright and Justin Garcia. Ortiz, Mendez, Capello and Wright scored and Capello, Wright and Garcia each earned a RBI for the inning.
Lockhart scored one more run in the third to stretch their lead. That would come to an end in the bottom of the third, however, as the Lions committed four errors and allowed the Cougars to score seven unearned runs and take the lead back for good.
Lockhart scored two more runs in the fourth as Mendez and Wright crossed the plate while Wes Selman drove in one of the runs with a sacrifice fly.
Lockhart scored one run each in the fifth and seventh innings, but could not overtake Connolly.
Wright led the team on offense for the night as he went four for four with one walk, scored four runs, had one stolen base and one RBI.
Lockhart now stands at 2-2 in district play. Their next home game will be against Vista Ridge on Friday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m.
