Seven Lion harriers raced in windy, dusty conditions in the State Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers’ Park on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The 4A Boys’ race started at 12:50 p.m. and was over within 15 minutes, despite strong winds and swirling dust that blew into the eyes of runners and the spectators throughout the race.
The Lions finished seventh in the state and LHS senior James Bonn finished in seventh place overall with a time of 15:44.
“While the results aren’t what we were hoping for, nothing can take away from our kids the efforts and hard work they put in to get that far,” Coach Doug Alfier said. “I know there are more than 200 4A schools that wish they could have been where we were.”
The second runner to cross the finish line for the Lions was Marcos Gonzales, who finished 30th with a time of 16:28. The third Lion runner was Ryan Gonzales, who finished in 47th place with a time of 16:49.
Roy Garcia finished 61st with a time of 17:08. David Dinh was 72nd at 17:29. Nate Moore was 77th at 17:33 and Joseph Anchondo was 99th at 18:40.
State 4A team results were as follows: Boerne Champion finished first with 54 points. Mesquite Poteet finished second with 106 points. El Paso Austin was third with 134, Canyon was fourth with 143, Big Springs was fifth with 152, Brenham was sixth with 157 and Lockhart was seventh with 158.
