Friday was a special night in Lockhart as the community packed the stands for Homecoming, cheering on the Lions under the lights. While the scoreboard didn’t go Lockhart’s way in a 63-6 loss to the Lehman Lobos, the Lions showed fight and gave their fans some exciting moments to celebrate.
Head Coach Mike Maldonado pointed out the strides his young team is making despite the tough result. “Our quarterback Noel Jaimes looked more comfortable in the pocket,” Maldonado said. “Our guys didn’t give up and you can see that their fight was still there to the very last play.”
Jaimes connected for 134 yards through the air, including a touchdown pass to freshman Demonte Anthony (#80), who is quickly becoming a name to watch for the future. George McGee was steady in the passing game with 28 yards receiving, while Kaidyn Brite powered ahead for 42 rushing yards, keeping the offense moving.
Lehman came into the game with something to prove after falling to Lockhart last September, and the Lobos found their rhythm early. Still, the Lions battled through every quarter. Maldonado emphasized the importance of those moments, noting that “young players are getting valuable experience, and that will pay off for us down the road.”
Homecoming is always about more than the final score, and the Lions were backed by a sea of maroon and white in the stands. The team may still be finding its footing, but their determination and growth were on display. As Maldonado summed it up, “The community reminded us tonight that Lockhart stands behind its Lions no matter what.”
