LJHS Sweeps Lobo Relays

The Lockhart Junior High Lions and Lady Lions swept the competition at the Lehman Junior Lobo Relays on Thursday, taking first place at all levels.

The Eighth Grade Lady Lions crushed the other nine teams in competition with 142.5 total team points, outscoring the second-place Dahlstrom team, who scored 101.

Cristal Trejo struck gold in the 800-meter run, blowing away the

rest of the field with a 2:37.34 finish time. She also won the 1,600 in 6:07.31.

Hurdler Jordan Anderson won the 100-meter hurdles with a run time of 16.97. Teammate Cielo Villalobos took fifth in the race at 18.56, with Maddie  Estrada close on her heels at sixth.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Macy Minter, Olivia Flores, Serenity Alva and Kastasia Thomas took the silver with a time of 55.72.

The 4×400 relay team, (Laurel Eeds, Kristi Villarreal, Alva and Trejo) finished second in 4:52.34.

Sara Burrier took bronze in the 400-meter run with a final time of 1:09.62. She also placed third in the 800-meter, finishing in 2:46.90.

Katelyn Murphy took fifth place in the 100-meter dash.

Hagar Flores took fifth in the 200-meter run.

Villalobos and Estrada also finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 300-meter hurdles.

On the field, Eeds took third in the long jump with a mark of 13’10”, with Gabby Flores finishing right behind her in fourth at 13’7”.

Destinee Brown won the shot put with a 39’0” throw, followed by Iris Guill who took second at 34’8”. Paola Munoz placed sixth in the shot with a 32’4” mark.

Flores took fourth in the triple jump with a 27’8” mark.

Thomas and Flores were in a four-way tie for second in the high jump at 4’4”, with Eeds rounding out the field at 4’2”.

Natalie Grimm took silver in the pole vault with a 7’0” mark. Trejo and Maddie Wealvert tied at 6’6”.

The Eighth Grade Lions also earned a big win, scoring 143.5 points to top the field. Barton Middle School trailed in second place at 96.25.

Fernando Castillo took gold in the 200-meter dash with a final time of 23.87. Stephon Houston finished fourth in 25.90.

Andres Dorado placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.17. Gabriel Salazar placed sixth in the tight field at 12.35.

Miguel Ferrer placed fifth in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.93.

In the 800-meter run, Albert Santos finished third in 2:25.00, with Weston Ayers hot on his heels in 2:26.00. Santos and Ayers also scored in the 1,600-meter, with Santos finishing third and Ayers bringing in sixth.

Angel Cruz tied for second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.43.

Cahill Murchison dominated the 300-meter hurdles, with a final time of 43.21.

The 4×100 relay team (Belar Sneed, Gabriel Salazar, Fernando Castillo and Andy Dorado) struck gold with a final time of 47.40.

Sneed, Salazar and Castillo teamed with Murchison in the 4×400-meter relay for a first place finish in 4:02.32.

On the field, Gabe Galvan proved a leader for the Lions, earning first place in both the shot put (49’8”) and the discus (127’7”).

Harley Davidson won the pole vault at a mark of 8’6”. Ferrer took second, also marking at 8’6”.

Castillo took fourth in the triple jump (32’10”). Sneed placed fifth in the long jump (15’11”) with Houston right behind in sixth (15’8”).

The Seventh Grade Lady Lions scored 128 points to place first. Barton took second place with 106.5 points.

In the 100-meter dash, Xavia Thompson won the field with a final time of 13.52, while Alex Hedspeth  placed second in 13.90.

Bonnie Cole won the 100-meter hurdles with a final time of 19.05, while Jaylee Martinez earned bronze at 19.78. Cole also took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, with Serenity Villalobos finishing fifth in 59.50.

The 4×100-meter relay team (Hedspeth, Pearson, Thompson and Ramos) won with a total time of 55.52. Jessica Jaramillo, Villalobos, Thompson and Ramos teamed to win the 4×400-meter relay at 4:46.27.

In the 200-meter dash, Hedspeth took silver with a 29.91 finish. Aiyana Pearson placed sixth in 30.97.

Sierra Ramos placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44.06. Jessica Jaramillo placed third in the 1,600-meter at 6:20.00.

Amada White took the bronze in the 400-meter dash with a final time of 1:11.78.

On the field, Thompson won the long jump with a leap of 13’4”, with Anna Gillis taking second at 13’3”. Bryanna Guzman placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 28’6”.

The Seventh Grade Lions earned 133.3 points, besting the second place Dahlstrom team who put up 77 points.

Luke Hippensteel led the Seventh Grade Lions with first place finishes in the 800-meter and the 1,600-meter run. Chris Jaimes took third in the 800, with a time of 2:25.30, and Gabriel Franco took fifth in the 1,600 at 5:42.00.

The Lions had a 1-2-3 finish in the 110-meter hurdles, with Devin Hester (18.24) leading and Logan Schnautz (19.65) and Skylar Griffin (19.81) rounding out the medal positions.

Ulicis Lopez struck gold in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.56. He also placed third in the 100-meter dash with a final time of 12.65.

Griffin placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.77.

Trival Joseph place fourth in the 400-meter in 1:02.97.

The relay team of Joseph, Lopez, Dylan Hazelett and Hester placed second in the 4×100 relay with a final time of 51.17. Hester and Joseph teamed with Logan Brown and Gabriel Franco for a second place finish in the 4×400-meter relay (4:24.93).

On the field, Hester won the long jump with a mark of 15’9”. Joe John Colurciello took second in the shot put at 35’3”.

Landon Brown (6’6”) and Marshall Grimm (6’6”) placed fifth and sixth respectively in the pole vault.

The Junior High Lions and Lady Lions will compete in the San Marcos Junior Relays at Goodnight Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 28.
