At Tuesday evening’s Board of Trustees meeting, the Lockhart Independent School District took a moment to recognize and honor a remarkable group of community volunteers who have gone above and beyond to enrich the lives of Lockhart Lions beyond the classroom.

The Board celebrated individuals and organizations making a daily impact on students through mentorship, counseling, sports, and community service.

Connections FAYS

Counseling Program

 Alisha Maiden &

Sarai Torres

Alisha Maiden and Sarai Torres were honored for their dedication through the Connections FAYS Counseling Program, which provides free counseling services to youth and families across Caldwell County. Whether meeting students on campus, virtually, or in-office, their mission is clear: to strengthen communities one youth and one family at a time. Founded in 1981, Connections FAYS now spans 16 counties and offers counseling, prevention programs, a children’s emergency shelter, and a transitional living program for youth. Maiden and Torres have demonstrated deep compassion and commitment to supporting Lockhart’s students and families through life’s challenges.

Lockhart Youth Football Javier & Erica Saucedo

Also recognized were Javier and Erica Saucedo, the driving force behind Lockhart Youth Football. Their devotion to young athletes extends beyond the field, into PTOs, churches, and the Chamber of Commerce. For the Saucedos, the true reward lies in witnessing their players’ personal and athletic growth and seeing how the community rallies behind their efforts. Their guiding principle is simple yet profound: to give back and make a difference. The Board expressed gratitude for their unwavering passion for building up Lockhart’s youth and helping UnLock the Potential of every Lion.

LTX Angels Fastpitch Softball

 David Ortiz

Coach David Ortiz, founder and leader of LTX Angels Fastpitch Softball, was celebrated for three years of exemplary service to Lockhart’s young female athletes. More than a coach, Ortiz is a mentor committed to instilling leadership, confidence, and teamwork in his players. With six years of coaching experience, Ortiz’s influence continues to shape strong, empowered young women on and off the field. His dedication to physical development and personal growth exemplifies the mission of unlocking student potential.

Summer High School

Basketball Booster Club

 Solomon Key

Solomon Key, Vice President of the Summer High School Basketball Booster Club, was acknowledged for his leadership and the organization’s tremendous impact on student-athletes. Through competition, mentorship, and community, the club offers students a platform to develop skills, confidence, and character. Key emphasized that sports offer more than wins and losses, they cultivate resilience, discipline, and leadership. The Board commended the Booster Club for fostering brotherhood and growth among Lockhart’s young athletes.

Lions Legacy Athletic Academy

 Coach Curtis Hawkins

Rounding out the recognitions was Coach Curtis Hawkins, founder of Lions Legacy Athletic Academy. The academy provides low- or no-cost access to sports, recreation, and mentorship opportunities for Lockhart youth. With a mission to pass down discipline, purpose, and community spirit, Lions Legacy has already hosted events like Kite Day with over 300 attendees, launched $5 open gyms, provided free transportation, and distributed more than 150 tickets to college and pro sports events. Coach Hawkins’ work is building more than athletes; it’s building a legacy.

The evening concluded with heartfelt thanks from the Board to each volunteer for their invaluable contributions to Lockhart ISD.
