Lockhart celebrates National Night Out

By LPR Staff

All over the City of Lockhart, neighborhoods are preparing to get together, get to know one another, and stand up against neighborhood crime by participating in National Night Out.

Annually, the first Tuesday of August is set aside as a time for neighbors to gather with one another, meet police and emergenc

y service workers in a community-building effort to present a united front. This year, 12 block parties are scheduled at neighborhoods all around Lockhart on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Those parties include:

Summerside Subdivision at the Park – 6:30 p.m.

Meadow Park Village – 5 – 7 p.m.

Windridge Subdivision,

1600 block of Windridge – 6:30 – 9 p.m.

1314 – 1315 Walter Ellison – 7:30 p.m.

First Baptist Church, 515 Neches St. – 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Lockhart Area. Senior Citizens Center

901 Bois D”Arc – 7 p.m.

Sunchase Apartments 1001 Guadalupe St. –

6 – 8 p.m.

1220 Plum St. – 6 p.m.

Golden Age Home, 1505 S. Main – 3 – 8 p.m.

1305 Woodlawn – 6:30 – 8 p.m.

SouthPark Apartments – 6 – 8 p.m.

706 Lemonmint – 6:30 – 9 p.m.

Though Lockhart has chosen to celebrate National Night Out in conjunction with the National Association of Town Watch on the first Tuesday in August, the organization has offered an optional later date of Oct. 3, 2012, for National Night Out activities in Texas. That date will be observed by other cities in Caldwell County, as well as by the Caldwell County Sheriff”s Department.

Originally, the later date was chosen to offer Texans an alternative date during a month when the heat is not as oppressive. However, based upon prior experience with the October date, the Lockhart Police Department chose to celebrate the August date because attendance and participation is traditionally higher during the summer, as opposed to during the school year.
