The Lockhart Lions are still searching for their first win of the season, but the effort and progress continue to show each week. On Friday night, the Lions fell to district rival Lehman, 32–12, extending their losing streak to eight games dating back to last season.

While the scoreboard didn’t tilt in Lockhart’s favor, there were plenty of bright spots. Braden Martinez was a defensive force, recording four tackles for loss. Miguel Portillo made a key play when he forced a fumble, giving the Lions a boost. On offense, Kaidyn Roland-Brite flashed speed and vision at running back, while special teams delivered an early highlight with Kealan Liles’ 60-yard kickoff return that electrified the crowd.

Head Coach Mike Maldonado praised the team’s resilience and pointed out that the Lions have actually outgained their opponents by nearly 200 yards combined this season. “We’re being tested right now, but these are things we can overcome,” Maldonado said. “Life will be much harder than this, and I believe our kids are strong enough to rise above it. We just need to fix the little things.”

Maldonado also noted the team’s competitive spirit, even in the face of adversity. “I never want to complain, but I have to fight for my boys,” he said of some officiating calls he felt hurt the team. “This group keeps battling, and I’m proud of that.”

The Lions, now 0–3, are building momentum despite the record, and with flashes of growth in all three phases of the game, Lockhart believes the breakthrough is near. Adding to the optimism, senior standout Ayden Scott is expected to return soon after missing time with an elbow injury earlier this season. Known for his playmaking ability and leadership, Scott could be the X-factor the Lions need to help swing momentum in their favor.

They’ll get another chance Friday night in their homecoming game when they take on Hendrickson at 7:00 p.m., hoping to turn progress into victory.
