Once again this year, the City of Lockhart is offering residents and business customers the opportunity to clean out the clutter in their homes and buildings. Throughout the month of April, the City of Lockhart, working in connection with Central Texas Refuse, will offer a series of free bulky trash collection days, whi

ch will culminate with the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on April 30.

Each Wednesday in April, workers from Central Texas Refuse will collect bulky trash from area customers, with no extra charge. Although residential and commercial construction trash will not be accepted, items such as furniture, bedding, large brush and lumber, and other large items will be collected, each Wednesday morning, on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.

Customers are reminded, however, that certain restrictions will apply and certain items will not be accepted.

For instance, tires, pesticides and solvents, paints, vehicle batteries and lumber longer than 5 feet will not be accepted. Less than one cubic yard of brush will be collected, but should be bundled separately, as should loose items, metal objects and appliances. Bags and boxes of trash should not weigh more than 60 pounds.

Collection will be performed as followed: (see attached map)

April 6: West of Highway 183 and north of San Antonio Street;

April 13: West of Highway 183 and south of San Antonio Street;

April 20: East of Highway 183 and north of Rosewood Street; and

April 27: East of Highway 183 and south of Rosewood Street.

On Saturday, April 30, the City of Lockhart will team with the Capitol Area Council of Governments, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Central Texas Refuse to host to fifth annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.

Beginning at 9 a.m. that day, Lockhart residents are invited to bring old paints, solvents, cleaning products, degreasers, batteries and the like to the rear parking lot of City Hall (Market Street at Guadalupe Street), where a dumpster will be set up for the collection.

Again, certain restrictions will apply.

Individuals hoping to participate in the Household Hazardous Waste Collection must be residents of the City of Lockhart, and should bring a utility bill to prove their residence.

Waste generated by business or commercial farming will not be accepted, nor will chemical containers larger than five gallons, medical waste or sharps, compressed gas cylinders, gun powder, metal or PCBs.

There will be no charge to customers for the collection of waste products at this event.

For questions or additional information on these events, contact Lockhart City Hall at (512) 398-3461, or call Central Texas Refuse at (800) 664-2833.
