In connection with the National Association of Town Watch, the Lockhart Police Department and citizens across Caldwell County will participate in National Night out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2010.

Although most Texas communities hold National Night Out events in October, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), the City of Lockhart opts to celebrate National Night Out in Aug

ust, in an effort to increase local participation.

National Night Out block parties offer neighbors the chance to get to know one another in a social atmosphere, while emergency first responders including police, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel visit with them. The cumulative effect, according to NATW, is that neighbors who participate in block parties are more likely to watch out for one another’s property and personal well-being, leading to safer and often healthier communities.

Lockhart and Caldwell County residents who want to participate in National Night Out activities have a variety of block parties and gatherings to choose from, beginning in the early afternoon and lasting well into the evening.
