Lockhart softball junior league ends tourney
The Lockhart Little League junior division softball team ended their District Tournament with a 4-1 defeat against La Vernia on Monday, July 11.
The defeat gave Lockhart a third place finish, and leaves La Vernia to battle out the championship with the skilled Hallettsville team.
In the first inning, Lockhart and La Vernia were tied with one run apiece. Audrey V
aldez scored Lockhart’s only run of the game after Andrea Acosta and Marissa Salazar brought her around to home plate.
La Vernia grabbed the lead during the second inning from their first batter. Lockhart quickly stopped them by making their next three outs on the following three batters.
In the third inning, the defense was tight for both teams leaving the score at 2-1 in La Vernia’s favor.
However, Lockhart’s tight defense let up in the fourth inning, and allowed La Vernia to score two more runs giving them a 4-1 advantage.
In the next two innings, Lockhart fought hard to gain runs on the scoreboard, but fell short. They kept La Vernia scoreless, however, it wasn’t enough to win the game.
