Born on a farm near Lytton Springs, Texas, on April 23, 1917, Marie Willie Carter Sneed passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16 in The Woodlands, TX. Marie and her identical twin sister Mildred were among six girls born of Edith and Horace Carter. Her parents were both lifelong residents and members of Caldwell County pioneer families. Marie and sister Mildred spent

their first three years of public school at Austin‚s Palm School∑.the formative years of a life dedicated to education.

A teaching career as a classroom teacher, a home economics instructor, and a librarian spanned 40 years. Her teaching service took her to Mission, TX. in the early 1940‚s; then to Owensville, Mo. schools, the hometown of husband Mike Sneed, and eventually to Del Valle, TX. near Austin where she retired as the high school‚s librarian. After graduating from then Lytton Springs High School, Mrs. Sneed attended Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine where she graduated with a degree in home economics. Late in her career she attended the University of Texas at Austin to complete her librarian‚s certification.
Upon her retirement, Mrs. Sneed and husband Mike, formerly of Capitol Chevrolet Company, continued to reside in Austin.

For the past several years, Ms. Sneed and sister Mildred have been residing in The Woodlands, TX.

Ms. Sneed, 87, was preceded in death by her parents; Mike, her husband of 32 years; sister Yvonne Dalton; nephew Mikel H. Pettit; and brothers in law E. Wayne Pettit and John P. Gabriel.
She is survived by sisters Mildred, The Woodlands, TX.; LaNelle, Lockhart, TX.; Blanche Carter, San Antonio, TX. and LaNier Gorom and husband Ed, Honey Grove, TX. She is also survived by nieces Mildred Marie (Missy) Daly and husband George, The Woodlands, TX.; Mary Nell Gorom, Honey Grove, TX.; and nephews Carter Pettit and wife Karen, The Woodlands, TX., Dr. John D. Gabriel, Fort Worth, TX., and Jay Dalton, Dripping Springs, TX.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11:00 a.m. for Ms. Sneed at her final resting place, the Bunton Cemetery near Dale, TX. McCurdy Funeral Home, Lockhart, TX.
