Mary Frances Jones passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 in her home in Austin of cardiac arrest caused by a long battle with arteriosclerosis, a cardiovascular disease.

She was born in West Columbia, Texas on June 22, 1941. Mary spent many of her younger years in Lockhart with her mother, Frances. Even though she was handicapped by polio, Mary had a sparkling spirit, h

appy attitude and believed everything was possible. Although in and out of hospitals all her life and overcoming great odds, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas. Unable to work full time because of health limitations, Mary was a tireless volunteer for many of Austin”s non-profit organizations. Her unique sense of humor and outgoing personality made her unforgettable. Mary was a blessing and inspiration to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Jones. Mary is survived by her sister, Doris Peterson of Talent, Ore., and two brothers, Robert Jones of Corpus Christi, Texas and Paul Jones of Goldthwaite, Texas.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 in the Lockhart Memorial Cemetery. She was buried alongside her mother and her grandfather, Henry S. Swearingen.
