Nielsen sets school record for Prairie Lea at Regionals
Special to the LPR
The Region IV-1A Regional Track Meet was held in Seguin this past weekend. Prairie Lea had 6 individuals qualify.
Freshman Kendall Nielsen set the new school record in the prelims of the girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.65 seconds. The previous record of 52.04 seconds was held by one of her coaches this year, Lindsey Demetriou.
Nielsen came back on Saturday to win the bronze medal in the finals of the 300-meter hurdles. She finished in 51.83 seconds and just missed out on qualifying for the State Track Meet.
Nielsen also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished in 11th place.
The boys’ 4×400 relay team consisting of junior Lane Fiscus, freshman Peter Duron, junior Gabriel Garcia, and junior Edwin Canepa finished in 14th place.
Junior Clifford Bell finished 12th in the 110-meter hurdles and 16th in the 300-meter hurdles.
Canepa finished 12th in the 800-meters.
Prairie Lea does not have a track on campus, which makes these accomplishments stand out even more. Athletic Director Jess Stephens thanked Lockhart AD Todd Moebes and the Lockhart Athletic Department for allowing the Indians and Arrows to practice a couple of days a week at their facility this year.
