June 15, 1932-April 26, 2025

Nuhad Nehmi Schuman passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025 in Austin, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lebanon, Nuhad was the daughter of the late Rafika (Jhraish) Nehmi and Habib Nehmi. She was the beloved wife of the late Jim Schuman.  Nuhad was a devout Christian who dearly loved her church. She was an early and lifelong member of the food committee of the annual Austin MedFest, founded by St. Elias Church. She was a proud homemaker for most of her life and always enjoyed hosting family and friends.  Everyone who came to her home left with either a full stomach or a treat to carry home.

Besides her hospitality, Nuhad was most known for her alteration shop in Lockhart where residents brought in their clothes and stayed a while to chat.  She loved nothing more than to dispense advice in the hopes that it would bring about a good return.

Nuhad was a doting grandmother and known as ‘Tita’ to not only her grandchildren and great grandchildren but to all of their friends and acquaintances who came to know and love her as a grandmother.

She will be missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.

In addition to Nuhad’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Schuman and her sister Muntaha Jabour.  She is survived by two daughters, Betty Schuman of Austin and Julia Schuman Hodges (Fadi Shabshab) of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Wadad Nabout and Soumaya Chalhoub of Lebanon; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker Elias (Nadim Elias) of Austin and Jim Walker (Bethany Lange Walker) of Austin; four great-grandchildren, Isabella Elias, Jonathan Elias, Charlee Walker, and Carson Walker, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:00pm at McCurdy Funeral Home located at 105 E. Pecan St. in Lockhart, Texas. Burial to follow at Lockhart City Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited. Memorial contributions can be made in Nuhad’s memory to St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, 15519 FM 1325, Austin, TX 78728.

May Nuhad’s memory will stay alive in the hearts of those she touched and loved.
