Prairie Lea welcomes new sandwich shop
By Anthony Collins
Prairie Lea, much like other small towns in Caldwell County, exudes a unique charm that sets it apart. The town is not only known for being the home of the Prairie Lea Indians, but also for its newly opened Brandini’s Sandwiches To Go.
The tight-knit community of Prairie Lea thrives on its rich history, making it a town for locals and visitors alike. With the addition of Brandini’s Sandwiches To Go, residents now have a new spot to gather and enjoy meals in the heart of their charming town.
Two years ago, the Blue Ribbon Bakery, which had been a prominent building, was put up for sale by its owners. It was then purchased by Brandon Brown, a resident of Prairie Lea and the owner of Brown Brothers Services. His wife, Lynn Brown, who had previously worked as a teacher in the Lockhart Independent School District, recognized a need in the community for a dining establishment. With their shared vision of providing delicious food at reasonable prices, they transformed their dream into a reality by opening Brandini’s.
Lynn and Brandon have taken a unique path to get where they are today. During her school days, Lynn gained valuable experience by working in various food service jobs, while Brandon honed his baking skills through self-teaching. Expressing their gratitude, both credit the owners of Blake’s in Luling for their invaluable guidance in understanding the intricacies of the food ordering process and understanding the art of calculating the cost per food unit. Brandon said the community’s prayers and support have been greatly appreciated, as they are instrumental in making their vision a reality.
Brandini’s offers a variety of sandwiches that come with freshly sliced meat and vegetables prepared in-house every day. These delicious fillings are then placed between slices of freshly baked bread made by Brandon himself. In addition to their sandwiches, Brandini’s also provides customers with homemade soup and authentic scratch-made kolaches, ensuring a diverse menu that caters to different tastes and preferences.
Brandini’s Sandwiches To Go can be found at 6949 Highway 80 in Prairie Lea, open from Wednesday to Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. For inquiries, you can contact them directly at 512-488-2040.
