Rita Marie Lopez

Rita Marie Lopez was called home on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the age of 47.

Rita was born on June 29, 1978 to Olga Torres Moreno and Luis Lopez in Lockhart, Texas.

She lost her battle to cancer and is preceded in death by Maternal Grandparents Ernest Torres Senior and Anita Torres. Paternal Grandparents Anastacio Lopez and Francis Lopez. Together again with her Tias, Tios and Cousins.

She is survived by her mother Olga Torres Moreno and her children Malieah Mishale Garcia, husband Elias Garcia, Son Benjamin Jacob Pavia, Grandchildren Genisis and Gene Thomas. Sister Margaret Lopez Moreno, husband Ray Moreno, Brother Joe Louis Lopez and wife Monica Acosta Lopez. Nieces Ashlynn Dyvine Lopez and husband Kenny Martinez, Marissa Katarina Moreno and husband Tanner Dragomir and Sophia Elena Moreno, Nephews Christopher Gavin Lopez and wife Isa Ortiz Lopez, Abraham Guillermo Lopez and Joseph Gustavo Lopez and Great Nieces Ariella Elena Martinez, Gianna Divina Martinez and Lucia Rose Lopez.

Rita Marie Lopez’s memory will live on through her Tias, Tios and in Rita’s words, shit load of cousins.

Rita was a beloved Daycare teacher and Director for the past several years. She loved working with her school kids (turkeys) and getting to know their parents. She enjoyed working all aspects of her job from the kitchen to the classroom. She was fiercely devoted to all her family and friends.

Rita demonstrated the highest levels of bravery going into her battles with cancer knowing she had an army of support. After learning her battle with cancer was going to drag on she showed resilience by drawing strength and courage from the same army to the end. Rita never gave up, always wanting to be part of everybody’s life from birthday parties, baby showers and even sporting events. She was always there.

Visitation will be from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at DeLeon Funeral Home.
