The Lockhart High School “Roaring Lion Band” received a first division rating at the UIL Region 18 Class AAAA Marching Contest at Burger Stadium in Austin on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The band advances to Area UIL Contest where they will compete against other Conference 4A bands from their region.
“These students were awes

ome,” Head Band Director Scott Taube said after their UIL performance. “The entire band staff is very proud of their diligence and teamwork.”
The Roaring Lion Band is under the direction of Taube and Assistant Band Directors Casey Thompson, Joseph McKelvey and Clay McNeill.
The LHS band began working on their current show on the first day of August. Their show features selections from the Broadway musical “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein.
The band students have devoted many hours during and after school perfecting their sound, steps and look. Their diligence, teamwork and perseverance paid off.
The upcoming Area contest is a preliminary round of approximately 25 bands with the top 10 bands advancing to the finals competition that same evening. The judges advance the best bands from those 10 to the State Marching Band Contest.
The Area Marching Contest will be held at Hays High School’s Shelton Stadium in Buda on Saturday, Oct. 27. Exact performance time is 11:30 a.m.
The contest is open to the public and all “Roaring Lion Band” fans, friends and family are encouraged to attend.
“If you have never been to a marching contest, you are in for a real treat.” Taube said. “So, come on out and support the Roaring Lion Band!”
See you at the contest.
