Robert Joseph Reeb
Robert Joseph Reeb was born May 25, 1919, on a farm in Paulding County, Ohio, to Sadie and Joe Reeb. He was called to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the age of 89.
Bob’s brother, Dale, and sisters Margie and twins Martha and Marie, preceded him in death.
After his high school graduation, Bob joined the Army and then transferred to th
e Air Force at its inception. Bob spent the next 30 years of his life serving his country in New Foundland, Guam, French Morocco, Japan, Italy, Washington, D.C. and San Antonio, among other locations. On completion of his tour of duty abroad following World War II and the Korean War, Bob visited the Officers Club in Valdosta, Ga., where he met the love of his life, Blanche Schneider.
They were the first couple to be married in the new First United Methodist Church, in Lockhart on March 22, 1953.
Bob and Blanche had three sons, which created a golf foursome, and a daughter to shop with Blanche.
Bob retired in 1967 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and moved his family back to Lockhart, where he began his second career of 20 years as Executive Director of the Golden Age Home.
In his free time, Bob coached his children’s sports teams and played golf. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.
In 1993, he and Blanche moved to the Hills of Lakeway which he called “Heaven on Earth.”
He became a volunteer at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, made many wonderful friends and played golf every chance he got. Of all of his life accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.
A devoted husband and father, Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Blanche Schneider Reeb; four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Robert J. Reeb, Jr., and wife, Maribeth, and their children, Robby, Drew, Alex and Annabeth of Ft. Worth; Bill Reeb and wife, Michealle, and their daughter Cheri, her partner Letitia and their son Marco, of Austin; son Michael Reeb and wife, Laura, and their daughters, Victoria and Brianna of Round Rock; and daughter Karen Reeb Cochran and her children Natalie and Reeb, of Fort Worth; three sisters-in-law: Joyce Tally, Katy Thomas and Liz Wales; brother-in-law, Phil Wales; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at McCurdy Funeral Home on Saturday Dec. 13, 2008, from 6 – 8 p.m.. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Lockhart on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. He was laid to rest at the Lockhart City Cemetery by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

During Mr. Reeb’s tenure in-charge of the Golden Age Home several of my family members were there at various times.
I never heard any but the very best things about him. He was always referred to as ‘Mr. Reeb’ and it was said with respect.
My impression is that Mr. Reeb understood the meaning of responsibility and meeting one’s obligations.
