Lockhart City Secretary Connie Ortiz announced on Tuesday morning that six candidates will appear on the ballot for May”s Lockhart City Council elections.
According to Ortiz, despite a showing of public interest in the positions, the incumbents in District One and District Two, Councilmember Kenny Roland and Mayor Pro Te
m Frank Estrada, will not face challengers on the May 12 ballot.
“A potential candidate for District Two did pick up a packet last week,” Ortiz said. “But she didn”t return it by the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday.”
Oritz also reported that two incumbents and two newcomers had filed for at-large positions, creating a four-way race for the two available seats.
Incumbents Paul Gomez and Richard “Dick” Wieland will face opposition from newcomers Mark Brown and James Bliss. The two highest vote-getters of the four will occupy the seats for the next term.
“We haven”t had any write-in candidates file yet,” Ortiz said on Tuesday. “There is another application process they have to go through, but candidates can still apply to run as write-ins until March 19.”
